Dr. Pandey's research has centred on screening, early detection and treatment of oral cancer. His work on screening for oral cancer carried out in Trivandrum with IARC, France has been successful in showing the efficacy of screening in reducing oral cancer morbidity. His work on excision of oral pre-cancers has shown that early detection of these lesions is possible. He has devised two surgical flaps i.e. Superior thyroid artery based sternocleidomastoid flap and maxillary artery based nasolabila flap for oral reconstruction. He has also contributed on unusual tumors of the oral cavity like sarcoma and melanomas. His work has made it possible to conserve mandible in patients with oral cancer and has also made it possible to minimise radical neck surgery sparing the morbidity of the procedure.
His aspiration for high quality research for cancer can be seen from his love of science and research in the specialty. Apart from being Editor-in-Chief of WJSO, he has published a total of 330 publications with overall impact: 276 (Average 67.34) , H-Index 38, I10-index- 105].
