  2. aSome of the patients’ baseline data has been presented previously [12]. The PCwas extensive in the majority of patients, and therefore they underwent both upper and lower abdominal surgery. The American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification (ASA grade) was 1 or 2 in 91% of the patients, and only 2 of the 76 patients had pulmonary co-morbidities before surgery. The overall hospital stay was 3 weeks.
