Treatment course of preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Preoperative chemotherapy consisted of two 2-week courses of tegafur-uracil (UFT; 300 mg/m2/day) and leucovorin (LV; 75 mg/ day) with a 2-week break. Radiation therapy was administered on weekdays for 5 consecutive weeks. Patients were monitored by interview, physical examinations, and blood tests every 2 weeks
