Resection status. Resection status was defined as complete resection (R0 resection), microscopic residual tumor (R1 resection), and macroscopic incomplete resection (R2 resection). It is displayed on the x-axis. Of the patients referred for definitive treatment with complete data sets (n = 96), 16.7 % had R0 resection status, 69.8 % had R1 resection status, and 13.5 % had R2 resection status. By contrast, of the patients who underwent primary excision at our institute (n = 94), 83 % had R0 resection status, 13.8 % had R1 resection status, and 3.2 % had R2 resection status. The resection status of referred patients at presentation was significantly inferior to that of patients treated exclusively at our CCC (Chi2 test, p < 0.0001). After re-excision, 93.8 % of the referred patients had R0 resection status and 6.3 % had R1 resection status
