The recovery process, restoration of gastrointestinal functions, the length of ICU stay and total hospital stay were the same as for the patients in the non-intervention group. Use of CPAP was longer for the patients in the intervention group and this group also received larger amounts of peri-operative crystalloids and combined crystalloids and colloids
